New Survey – Students’ Experience with the College Application Process
We’re looking for students and young adults who want to share their experiences about the college application process! The California Cradle-to-Career Data System is partnering with Vital Research to hear from students about their experiences when applying or transitioning from high school to college or trade programs.
We want to know how students and young adults navigate education after high school, including filling out college/trade and financial aid applications, transferring credits, and requesting transcripts. Charting the Course for a People-Powered Data System
Spotlighting the California Cradle-to-Career Data System, California Competes recently published a brief on the impact of user-centered design in creating data tools that achieve its goals and empower people to act. In companion with the release, California Competes also held a webinar featuring Cradle-to-Career’s Executive Director Mary Ann Bates and Director of Data Programs Ryan Estrellado, where participants gained valuable insights into C2C’s approach and plans for integrating user-centered design throughout the design and development of the data system.

Recap – August Governing Board Meeting
On August 9, 2023, Cradle-to-Career convened the summer meeting of the Governing Board. Held in-person in Sacramento, Governing Board members participated in a full day’s session, voting and approving C2C’s Strategic Plan, 12-month work plan and updated 5-year timeline, and new Community Engagement and Data and Tools Advisory Board Members. C2C welcomed Nathan Evans, CSU Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs, to the Governing Board and Gavin Payne as the new Board Chair-Elect. Member Payne joined new Presiding Board Chair Robert Tagorda and thanked former Board Chair Amy Fong for her service.

California Cradle-to-Career Data System Governing Board Demographic Survey
The California Cradle-to-Career Governing Board is intended to reflect California’s cultural, racial, geographical, economic, and social diversity. As part of C2C’s equity action plan for 2023, the Office facilitated the collection and dissemination of the Board’s demographic information, which was presented at C2C’s August Governing Board meeting.
This year’s survey only asked about race/ethnicity and gender, but gauged the Governing Board’s thoughts on including additional information in the future about lived experiences that reflect those of Californians such as first-generation, English learners, or socioeconomic status.
