California Updates Informational Tool for College and Career Planning

C2C Staff | April 16, 2026

SACRAMENTO – California today announced a refreshed Student Pathways Dashboard, bringing improved accessibility, fully mobile capabilities, and enhanced performance for the first-of-its-kind informational tool for education and career planning.  The refreshed Student Pathways Dashboard also unlocks a new year of data, displaying key milestones in students’ experience over time from high school all the way to their careers.

The Student Pathways Dashboard allows the public, educators, researchers, and policymakers to access detailed information on education and career outcomes, workforce trends, and more to illuminate and address areas of strength and needed growth. The informational tool helps students better understand their options for education and career planning through data-driven insights.

“Now more than ever, people need access to trusted information to help them make decisions about their education and careers,” said Mary Ann Bates, executive director at the Office of Cradle-to-Career Data. “Prior to launching Student Pathways, we listened first, then built it. After launching, we continued to listen and make improvements. We’re thrilled to introduce a refreshed tool that delivers on-demand insights and prioritizes accessibility for all Californians.”

Built by, and for Californians

Californians are utilizing the tool to gain insights for their own college and career planning. Users have visited the Student Pathways Dashboard nearly 80,000 times since first launching in April 2025. The Student Pathways Dashboard’s enhanced capabilities were driven by feedback from Californians, whose insights shape Cradle-to-Career’s design and decision-making. After one year of releasing the first Student Pathways Dashboard, users voiced the need for improved responsiveness, accessibility, and mobile access.

Enhanced Performance

Users can experience faster performance when interacting with the dashboard. The improved Student Pathways Dashboard  now houses the tool’s data visualizations directly on the website rather than being embedded in a separate ‘box.’ This results in faster load time and improved responsiveness for users.

Improved Accessibility

Student Pathways goes above and beyond accessibility standards with enhanced data visualizations for screen readers that allow for both high-level overviews and granular data extraction for those using assistive technology. This improvement will allow people with complete or partial blindness to better interact and engage with the tool’s visualizations and gain reliable insights.

Fully Mobile Insights

Now fully accessible on all mobile phones, Student Pathways meets students and families where they are and can help them understand their college and career options. This new feature prioritizes functionality with a user-friendly interface, giving users insights on-demand.

Connecting Education and Workforce Insights

California’s strategies to prepare the workforce of tomorrow relies on aligned education and career pathways information. Transparent and verified information on education and workforce outcomes is crucial in understanding whether strategies to improve student success are working as intended. C2C’s refreshed Student Pathways Data Dashboard makes it easier for more Californians to access useful, easy-to-understand insights that can inform decision-making about education and careers.

Through Student Pathways, Californians can analyze:

  • How California students navigate to and through college
  • Who enrolls in college
  • What types of degrees students earn
  • How long it takes students to graduate
  • How much working students earn while enrolled in college
  • How much individuals earn after they graduate
